Education & Care Fund
Meet Phyllis G. Kreider
December 23, 1924 – March 10, 2022
Phyllis G. Kreider lived an exceptional life until the age of 97. Having never had children of her own, she left a legacy to help others.
Specifically, young adults who are like her. Hungry for an education. Intensely interested in science and healthcare. Young adults who want to compassionately serve others.
Phyllis established her Donor Advised Fund through the Faithful Journey Foundation – FaithfulJourneyFoundation.org – to provide scholarships to promising young students. Here is how she described her intentions:
“I want to help young people who are interested in serving people through the field of healthcare. People who will work hard to achieve their dreams. People who will have a successful career serving the people of Lancaster County.”
Some of the principles that motivated Phyllis:
Hard Work
Phyllis was a Lancastrian eighth-generation granddaughter of Hans Herr. She inherited the Germanic work ethic and attention to detail. Actually, Phyllis is a double descendant of Hans Herr through both her Mother’s Father and Father’s Mother.
Academic Success
A bright mind, a good high school background in science and math, and diligent application will result in your success. A scholarship will help you concentrate on your studies and relieve financial pressure. Ongoing debt will be less of a problem. It is up to you!

Community Mindedness
Phyllis was always actively involved with the community. She loved participating in all that Lancaster has to offer. Music, theater, the library, historical organizations, social clubs, senior centers and much more.
Generosity
Phyllis supported many community organizations. Her Educational Fund will perpetuate her values, in her community far into the future.
Healthy Living
Phyllis advocated the importance of a healthy body and an active mind. She was conscious of and knowledgeable about good nutrition. She lead exercise classes until Covid ended her teaching at age 95!
Spirituality
Phyllis was an active member of First Presbyterian Church, but she honored all major religions. She believed in the power of prayer and meditation.

Multiculturalism
Phyllis appreciated the rich diversity of cultures that comprise and enrich Lancaster. Our diversity enhances life for us all! Lancaster has always been welcoming of refugees - in the early 2000s it was the Lost Boys of Sudan, more recently it has been Syrian refugees, and tragically now we must extend ourselves to support the critical needs of both Afghan and Ukrainian refugees.
