Moravian University

Phyllis was a graduate of Moravian University with a B.S. degree in Medical Technology. Moravian also has an excellent Nursing program. Moravian equipped Phyllis to complete her training at St. Luke’s Hospital in Bethlehem and Hamot Hospital in Erie. As her career advanced she served as head of the Pathology Laboratory at St. Joseph Hospital after serving as medical technician at Osteopathic Hospital, later Community Hospital in Lancaster. Her Moravian education was the foundation of her career success. She cherished the impact of a scholarship at a strong academic program like Moravian University.

Phyllis appreciated the impact that the Lancaster Campus of HACC has had on many first-generation college students. She appreciated the cost-effectiveness of community colleges and recognized the importance of their supportive educational environment for first-time college students. Phyllis also appreciated the wide diversity of programs across the spectrum of healthcare, from Certified Nursing Assistant to LPN to RN to Laboratory Technology – and more! Something for everyone and close to home. HACCs rigorous academic programs also qualify you to continue your education to the Bachelors or Masters level at most Universities.

Care Organizations Supported

In addition to education, Phyllis had a heart for caring for people in need. Two organizations

that exemplify that care are her church and Mennonite Home Communities.

First Presbyterian Church of Lancaster,
Pastor's Discretionary Fund

Phyllis has long realized that budgets are static, but human need and emergency situations are dynamic. Thus for years, she supported the Pastor’s Discretionary Fund to ensure that the pastor can respond to unanticipated needs within the congregation or the community. This is a wonderful way to feed the flock of the faithful and has given Phyllis great satisfaction over the years. Her Donor Advised Fund will continue that support.

Mennonite Home Communities

Phyllis has long supported the Benevolent Care program at Mennonite Home through her annual campaign donations and founding membership in Hearts and Hands Women’s Connection. Having spent time at MHC receiving care herself, she wanted to support those in need of benevolent care through her DAF. The opportunity to provide scholarships or unique educational experiences for the current staff members, who desire to broaden their skills and education, was important to her.

Since 1903 Mennonite Home has been providing compassionate care for residents who outlive their resources. The Benevolent Care is provided through the generosity of donors who care deeply about providing high quality services to seniors.
